Living in Norway

Norway, I will never complain about living here when I see all the terrible stuff that is happening in other parts of the world. We are so lucky to live here in a place with great living conditions, peace and a lot of valuable resources.

Yesterday I watched the news about the Korean dictator that died, and when I see how the politics are and how the people in North-Korea are treated, I feel even more grateful to live here in Norway.
Norway is a monarchy, which means that we have a king and a queen, and also a Prime minister in head of the community. We are lucky to have a democracy, with freedom of speech and religion. You don’t have to be afraid of outing your own opinions, without being arrested or executed, like some countries actually are dealing with.

I think the biggest difference between living in China and Norway is probably the everyday life. Just the surroundings and how you relate to other people around you. China is a huge country compared to Norway, and the cultures are also widely different.

The language is also completely dissimilar, we don’t have any thing in common when it comes to that, we even have different letters and symbols. In Norway we can understand Danish, Swedish and English, and maybe even a little German, and that’s probably a lot different than in China.
I personally think every chine looks the same, and I can’t see the difference between Koreans, chines, and Japanese, but that is probably also the same for you in China.

Many people in countries far away, have maybe not even heard of Norway, or don’t know anything about it at least. As the prime-minister Jens Stoltenberg said during the time around 22th of July “We are a small county, but today we are the biggest in the world”.  We may be a small country, but we are big on love, care and compassion. People may think we are the capital of Sweden, but we do great things that other countries admire.

Project Lesotho 2011

Lesotho is a country in South Africa, a Kingdom which gained its independence in 1966, but still is completely dependent on the rest of south-Africa. The capital of Lesotho is Maseru, and their official language is English and Sesotho.

My English class here on Sandvika vgs, have a project were we are collecting money for a school in Lesotho. The school is for children from 6-18, and we want to give them better learning opportunities with raising 14.000 kroners too help them receive internet in their classrooms.
Last lesson my group went to Oslo to sell cakes and “lussekatter” and we manage to collect over 2500 kroners to our project. We are very happy with the result and are looking forward to raise even more in the future.

The O.C

We were told to pic a topic too talk about in class, and I chose to talk about tv-series.

During my time alive, I watched a lot of TV-series:  One Tree Hill, The Hills, The city, 90210, pretty little liars, Vampire diaries, true blood, Two and a half men, How i met your mother, Big bang theory, South park, Desperate Housewives, Greys anatomy, home and away, Scrubs, that’s 70show, gossip girl and the O.C are mainly the once that I have been watching the most.

It is very difficult for me to pick out one favorite TV-show, but the one series that have been affected me the most is the O.C. I have all the seasons on DVD, and i have no idea how many times i have seen it. The funny part is though, that i have never watched the fourth season even though i have bought it.
The show first aired in 2003 and became a huge hit, it lasted for 4 more years but something tragic happened in season 3 that resulted in a huge decrease of viewers.

The main persons in the series are Marissa Cooper, Ryan Atwood, Seth Cohan and Summer Roberts. But it is mainly about Ryan, which is a pretty troubled kid from a poor neighborhood who involves himself into the wrong environment. A lawyer by the name Sandy Cohen rescues him and lets him live in their house. In the first place it was supposed to be temporary, but they start to really care about the boy, and since he doesn’t have a home to return to, they manage to become a family over time. Seth and Ryan basically become brothers, and Sandy and Kirsten (Seth’s parents) starts to feel for him like he’s their son.

The relationships between the main persons Marissa, Summer, Seth and Ryan is changing throughout the series.  The series is structured so there is romance between Ryan and Marissa, and the same for Seth and Summer while Ryan and Seth are best friends, just like Marissa and Summer are best friends.

Season 3 ends with Marissa dying and after that i promised myself that i wouldn’t watch the following season to kind of “demonstrate” against the show. And i guess other people thought the same way, because they lost a lot of views after season 3, and they actually had to shut down the series after season 4. I was also upset about the fact that Ryan and Marissa didn’t end up together in the end. I find that extremely frustrating.
When Marissa dies they play the song “hallelujah”, so every time i hear that song I think about that scene, and I get a little sad.

All I have to say is that I love the O.C, and it will always have a special place in my heart!
